Saturday Morning Western Pulp: Wastern Trails, March 1942

You just can't go wrong with a Norman Saunders cover, as this issue of WESTERN TRAILS demonstrates. There's a pretty good bunch of Western pulpsters inside, too: Gunnison Steele (Bennie Gardner), Tom J. Hopkins, Charles N. Heckelmann, Ben Judson, and Jay Karth are the biggest names, joined by lesser-known authors Nelson Willliam Baker, Brete Campion, Hyatt Manderson, and V. Chute.

That’s a helluva “ticking clock” : owlhoots are coming, hero’s hands are tied with rope — try to burn thru the rope with a branding iron while simultaneously returning fire — wow!

Whenever I see a really specific action situation like that on a cover, I wonder if it was based on an actual scene in the story, or if the artist was just being particularly brilliant that day. Either way — TERRIFIC cover by of the true Masters of Pulp Art.
