Somebody Out There Needs This
I've been contacted by a person who has a complete set of the Mike Shayne novels for sale, along with correspondence between Davis Dresser and his wife Mary. Anybody who might be interested, let me know and I'll put the seller in touch with you. I don't know what the price is going to be or any details about the books (edition, condition, etc.).
But it's a good reason to post a McGinnis cover, right?

Any reason to post a McGinnis cover is a good reason. Cash and space restrictions prevent me for inquiring about the purchase, but it sounds like a great opportunity.
Forgive me for overstating the obvious but someone's gotta say it: jeez, could that guy draw hot babes! Yumph.
And still can! My Hard Case / Subterranean Press double volume, 69 Barrow Street and Strange Embrace, bound back to back or, given that it's Hard Case Crime #69, belly to belly, features two McGinnis paintings, and he hasn't lost his touch. That was only a couple of years ago, and I believe he's done some Hard Case covers since then.
My all-time favorite cover artist, that's for sure.
I have all the Mike Shayne paperbacks including many with different covers. Quite a few had belonged to my late father so a number of years ago I decided to complete the series. I did read one this year and it seemed dated, but those books will be kept when I finally get around to downsizing my collection.
No dice here, either, I have about two-thirds of them already, and continue to pick one up when I come across it. Which is pretty rare these days.
I consider McGinnis, along with Wyeth and Frazetta, as one of the most important American artists of the 20th century. We're very lucky to still have him alive and working.
This one not one of my favorite paintings, though. Thanks for letting us know.
I agree there are better covers on some of the Mike Shayne and Carter Brown books. This was just one that I found quickly.
