Saturday Morning Western Pulp: Lariat Story, September 1942

Yowza!  This one looks like it should have been on an issue of SPICY WESTERN instead of the normally more sedate LARIAT STORY.  Even though they're not featured on the cover, there's a good line-up of authors in this issue, too, including Walt Coburn, Eugene Cunningham, and William F. Bragg.

I'm a big Eugene Cunningham fan. Buy anything with his name attached.

For many years I actually owned the original cover painting of this issue. Back in the 1970's a fellow art collector delivered the painting to me in a snowstorm and I only had to pay $100.00 for it. I kept it hanging in the bedroom for about 20 years and finally sold it to Robert Lesser who had a thing for hunchback cretins whipping girls. Now I understand he has given it to the New Britain Museum along with the rest of his pulp cover paintings.

Me, I'm still at it Pardners.

Lariat sure used the damsel in distress theme a lot, didn't they? This is a good one.
