Shayna's a big fan of Craig Ferguson, so we went into Fort Worth tonight to see him perform at Bass Hall. This was the first live performance I've been to in many years, and the first time I've ever gone to see a comedian. It was a lot of fun. Ferguson came out and went full-blast for nearly 90 minutes. He must have been exhausted. I was tired after just watching him. But most of it was really funny.
This was my second time at Bass Hall. The first time was for the launch of NOAH'S RIDE, the collaborative novel that a dozen Texas writers did a few years ago. Needless to say the crowd was much bigger tonight. I enjoyed it enough that if I might go back, if someone I want to see is performing there. Although this fancy nightlife is hard on us old folks.

I saw him several years ago at the Classic Center in Athens Georgia.
I've been a huge fan of his ever since I saw his 1999 movie "Saving Grace" and all too frequently stay up too late watching his late night program.
My only problem with his stand up is that he has a small stable of jokes, and the bulk of them he dosen't change. So if you've seen his DVD, then you will more or less just see a Live version of that show.
My daughter knows his act pretty well and said there was quite a bit of new stuff in tonight's show. It was all new to me.
I never realized Ferguson toured. I also didn't realize you live in this area, James -- I'm in Frisco, TX, myself. Still not sure seeing a Ferguson appearance would be worth the drive to Ft Worth, though. But then, I don't think ANYTHING would be worth the drive to Ft. Worth!
Joe,
Yeah, driving across the Metroplex is almost like driving from one state to another. I had to go to Grand Prairie a while back and thought I was never going to get out of there, what with all the road construction.
This was the last stop on Ferguson's current tour. He was in Austin before Fort Worth. He comes through Texas every two or three years.
If you are ever in LA, you should see his show live. The studio is right near the LA Farmer's Market, so it makes a nice evening -- you can get dinner at the Markets, and then see Ferguson for free.
I can't figure out why so much ink is spilled on Leno and Conan, when Ferguson is much funnier (at least, to my taste). Moreover, I suspect he is the only late night talkshow host that interviews people who aren't movie stars or comedians -- I've seen him have novelists and philosophers and scientists and inventors on, as well.
Part of the closing number from Sunday night's show has been posted on YouTube. From the looks of the video, it was shot from very near where Shayna and I were sitting.

I've been a Letterman fan for 30 years... but I have to say, Ferguson is the funniest thing on late-night. And I think he wrote and sang that incredibly catchy theme song...
