J.W. Scott didn't do a lot of covers for science fiction pulps, concentrating instead on Western, detective, and sports titles, but the SF covers he did were good ones, like this issue of MARVEL STORIES. Raymond Z. Gallun and John Russell Fearn are the best-known authors in this one. The other authors on hand are Henry Haase, A. Fedor, Richard O. Lewis, D.D. Sharp, and John L. Chapman. If you're like me, some of those names make you go, "Who?" If you'd like to check out this issue, you can find it online here.

For anyone who didn't do at least a flip-through of this, go to page 104. There's an ad for Marvel Comics there featuring the original Human Torch that has to be read to be believed. Next time you visit your local comic shop be sure to thank them for keeping kids from growing up to become fifth columnists and undesirable citizens. :)
Best thing I've seen in a week. Thanks for the link!
But . . . but . . . he never flames on! What kind of Human Torch story is that?
I remember the original Human Torch (and Toro). When the Fantastic Four came along, I picked up an issue even though I was well along from comic book years by then out of curiosity. Not the same Human Torch at all. As a kid, I came along late with the original Human Torch and never did tumble to the fact that he was an android. Duh!
I remember very clearly picking up one of the early Fantastic Four Annuals (#4, maybe?) in which Johnny Storm discovers the original Human Torch's android body lying dormant somewhere. I had already read some of the reprints of the original Torch's stories and thought it was a great idea to bring him back. That was a good summer day reading that Annual.
