That is a tough-lookin' hombre. And with stories inside by Peter Dawson, Talmage Powell, William R. Cox, and Tom W. Blackburn, among others, I'll bet this is a pretty good issue of NEW WESTERN, too.

I used to see that very image in nightmares back when I was a wee little younker!
One interesting thing that I've noticed over the years is that cover artist Robert Stanley often painted a sort of trademark nick of blood on the forehead of his western portraits. He didn't do it all the time but he did it often enough for me to notice. Though unsigned, this looks like the art of Robert Stanley and it has the blood nick on the forehead.
