Sunday Morning Bonus Pulp: All Star Adventure Magazine, December 1936
Decent Foreign Legion cover on this pulp I've never encountered before. "All Star" is maybe a little strong to describe the authors in this issue. I think only Eugene Cunningham and Georges Surdez fall into that category. But I'm sure it's pretty entertaining.

Surdez apparently invented Russian Roulette for one of his pulp stories about the Legion. He got published in the slicks too, Colliers. And he translated some of JH Rosny aine's work, that's the guy that wrote Quest for Fire.
Good title but it only lasted a few issues. Foreign Legion stories were very popular in the pulps but I've read so many that I no longer like the battle scenes. I'm always looking for the rare story that deals with the more mundane every day life in the Legion. It's always been a puzzle to me how you could enlist for a 5 year hitch for pennies a day. It was hard labor and dangerous duty.
Georges Surdez is given credit for inventing the term "Russian roulette" but he used it in a slick story for COLLIER's, not for a pulp story. It was a very short story in 1936 or 1937.
By the way, there is a great article about Surdez online. Go to google.com and type in "The Man Who Invented Russian Roulette". Talks about his pulp career, etc.
I like Legion stories but I don't have any pulps so it's catch-as-can for me.
A collection featuring the "Russian Roulette" story along with 4 other Short Short stories by Georges Surdez of the Foreign Legion from Collier's is now available on Amazon and B&N for the Kindle and Nook.
Russian Roulette is the title of a Georges Surdez story from Collier's Weekly, January 30, 1937 that is online at www.unz.org
