100 Books

Several people have tagged me with this, so I thought I should give it a try. The books marked with an X are the ones I’ve read, 21 out of 100. There are several others on the list I was supposed to read in college, but I didn’t actually read them. There was heavy skimming involved on those. I actually got 24 out of 100, which surprised a little bit. I mean, gee, shouldn't the Harry Potter books count as 7? The Lord of the Rings as 3? Although I gladly admit there are huge holes in my classic reading, I wonder if anyone but a Shakespeare scholar has read all of the Shakespeare plays. I took a senior-level Shakespeare class in college and only read 4 or 5.

I can also look at some of these and happily say, well, I haven't read The 5 People You Meet in Heaven, but I did read Tuesdays WIth Morrie. I haven't read the Narnia books exactly, but I did read The Magician's Nephew and also I've read a couple of CS Lewis's nonfiction religious books like The Screwtape Letters. So I suppose I'm not a complete literary philistine.

The sad truth is that I guess more people really have read Dan Brown than, say, Pullman or Banks.

This list is nuts. No Stephen King, no Agatha Christie, but Tolstoy.
