Omen?

I just realized tonight that during the first quarter of this year, I wrote 1313 pages of fiction. At least it wasn't 666. It's a good thing I'm not superstitious . . . although there's a black cat sitting about five feet from me at this moment, and I don't much like the way he's looking at me.

That's a fair clip--10-13 pages a day with no weekends off. Just out of curiosity--it takes me 3-4 hours to do 5-6 pages, but then I'm spent. How long is your typical writing session?

I usually work an hour and a half to two hours in the morning, which produces seven or eight pages, then another four hours or so in the afternoon, which adds another twelve to fourteen pages. But I often don't get to put in both stints at the computer, because of real-life commitments, so I just get part of a day on those occasions. I can start earlier and work later if I need to, or sometimes I'll put in the same amount of hours but the work will go really well, like last Sunday when I worked the usual six hours or so but turned out 31 pages.

Livia read the above comment and said there's no way in the world I spend only six hours a day at the computer, and now that I think about it, she's right. She's probably a better judge of that than I am. I guess it's true that time flies when you're having fun, and even after all these years, writing is still fun, thank goodness. My writing time probably averages more like eight hours a day, and that's just the time spent actually producing new pages. It doesn't include editing, plotting, researching, talking to and emailing editors, etc.
