Tuesday's Overlooked TV: Steven Wright on The Tonight Show
I'm not sure why, but Steven Wright cracks me up more than just about any comic I can think of. This is his first appearance on The Tonight Show. He's so nervous he can barely keep going, but he's still very, very funny, at least to me.
He's a "joke machine" in the Henny Youngman fashion, but in such a clever, relatively sophisticated and off-center way that he has a vast as well as intense appeal. I've always enjoyed his work. He had a fine episode of the PBS sitcom anthology TRYING TIMES, as well.
Cracks me up.

ReplyDeleteVery clever, I'd not seen / heard of him before.
