As I'm sure Bill Crider will point out, this was followed by an 'answer' song, "I'm the Girl From Wolverton Mountain" by (I had to look it up) Jo Ann Campbell.
I had forgotten about that answer song, but now that you mention it, I remember hearing it. I don't think it was nearly as popular as the original, at least not in my neck of the woods.
