It was fifty years ago today that ROCKY AND BULLWINKLE debuted. I was in first grade at the time and don't recall if I saw that first episode, but I do have vivid memories of watching it every day after school about that time, and for many years afterwards I watched the show every chance I got. From what little I've seen of it in recent years, it holds up pretty well, especially the segments with Rocky and Bullwinkle themselves. The other stuff doesn't amuse me quite as much as it did back then. I really ought to pick up some of the DVDs, but I don't know when I'd find the time to watch them.
This was a great show for its time. The writing was more adult than the so-called adult cartoons like The Flintstones and The Jestsons.
ReplyDeleteA great cartoon for adults as well as kids.
ReplyDeleteCan I link to this on Monday when I'm blogging about TV shows we love.
ReplyDeleteA favorite of mine, too.
ReplyDeleteGreat cartoon, James. Thanks for posting and the memories.
ReplyDeleteEd Lynskey
Patti,
ReplyDeleteCertainly you can link to it. That would be great. Thanks!
The complete Rocky and Bullwinkle series on DVD will cost you less than $50 (now available on three DVD sets). Sounds like a fine Christmas present...
ReplyDeleteGreat show. Always liked Sherman and Mr. Peabody.
ReplyDeleteI didn't realize it was so old, though I should have. I loved it when I was allowed to start watching television in the early seventies!
ReplyDeleteAs a child, I always could tell June Foray's voice was that of a woman, so thought Rocky was supposed to be a female squirrel. Thus, an early Emma Peel/Buffy Summers character for me who was as adept as, or more than, her constant male companion.
