The 30s and later western covers all see to emphasis gun fights while in the teens and twenties there's as tendency for covers to reflect everyday life in the West. Including things like cowboys reading Cowboy Stories.bebnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7527967.post-40181565841410276032013-04-20T10:43:48.697-05:002013-04-20T10:43:48.697-05:00COWBOY STORIES was not the only western pulp to sh...COWBOY STORIES was not the only western pulp to show a cowboy reading the magazine. I have 4 issues of WESTERN STORY that also show the same theme. If James ever wants to do a similar display the issues of WESTERN STORY are:

1921--January 8
1923--May 5
1924--July 12
1925--February 28

There may have more but these are the ones I noticed.Walker Martinhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/16089880902426182100noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7527967.post-50854275986960700532013-04-20T09:42:12.306-05:002013-04-20T09:42:12.306-05:00...and he's reading the same issue that he app......and he's reading the same issue that he appears on!Sean McLachlanhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/09778503397743759469noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7527967.post-14306712129932442392013-04-20T07:25:41.026-05:002013-04-20T07:25:41.026-05:00I like that the subscriber sat right down at the m...I like that the subscriber sat right down at the mailbox to read. They often had the best artists and instead of just one illustration per story they used several. Nick Eggenhofer and Arthur Mitchell did some nice covers showing cowboy life. In otherwords the covers were not always shoot 'em ups.

I have most of the Clayton issues but the quality seemed to decrease when Street & Smith took over in the early 1930's.Walker Martinhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/16089880902426182100noreply@blogger.com
