Robert E. Howard Movie News

Sometimes you just have to shake your head and ask yourself, "What were they thinking?"

(By the way, if you're a Howard fan and aren't reading the REH: Two Gun Raconteur blog, you should be.)

Scary stuff.
P.S. I was a reader of Two-Gun Raconteur for the first five issues or so, but didn't know it was still going, or had a spin-off blog. Cool.

Seems to me they're doing with Howard what American-International did with Poe long ago: taking the name of the author and the names of his works but changing everything else. Sad.

Both pitches sound idiotic, especially the El Borak. Howard is a good example that some writers work just don´t translate well to the screen. Good to know that the word still can be more vivid than the picture. For example I have read "Queen of the Black Coast" so many years ago for the first time, and it evoked so many impressions and ideas that any movie version just would be a shallow reproduction.

At least with the Poe movies they invented something new. Any Howard movie can only disappoint.

Howard's work is so visual I think that they could make very good movies out of a number of his stories, but first they'd have to get over the idea that they have to change everything. Stick as close as possible to what Howard wrote, and you'll have a good film.
